The Drag King Project
Toni Latour
May 17 – June 16, 2007
Opening Reception and Artist’s Talk: May 17, 7pm
Harcourt House
3rd floor, 10215 12th St.

In The Drag King Project, Toni Latour draws on her experiences within the Vancouver queer community. She gives a face to Vancouver drag kings as they explore and perform gender from a variety of perspectives. The exhibition includes 26 photographs, video of drag performances and wall-mounted text derived from audio interviews of the participants.

In addition to the exhibition, Latour will present an artist talk on her multidisciplinary practice that includes video, photography, installation and performance art.

Much of Latour’s work is focused on her identification as an artist and her relationship to various communities. Several projects have incorporated factions of Vancouver’s queer community, in an effort to increase visibility. Other projects have been born from Latour’s participation in Canadian art communities, making reference to other artists and her position within the contemporary art landscape.

Please join us at the reception as the artist will be in attendance.
